Feel inspired by the Lake Geneva Region

The Lake Geneva Region, located in the canton of Vaud, must be among Switzerland’s most beautiful travel destinations. Once you’ve been there and have felt inspired by the beauty of nature, it isn’t at all surprising to find out that artists and celebrities of all genres have settled and worked in this part of the country. Besides Lake Geneva, the region’s landscape is characterized by the Jura Mountains in the north and the Vaud Alps to the east. Sloping vineyards, charming towns, wine-growing villages, glaciers and lush pastures add to the region’s fascinating scenery.

To explore the Lake Geneva Region broadly, we recommend taking a ride on the panorama train “Golden Pass Line” that operates between Montreux and the Bernese Oberland and passes through the region’s vineyards and the Vaud mountains.

The region’s three most famous cities are Lausanne, the canton’s capital, Geneva and Montreux. Lausanne has been home to the International Olympic Committee since 1914. Besides this Olympic tradition (check out the Olympic Museum), Lausanne’s beautiful Old Town captures you with a vibrant cultural life, plenty of shopping opportunities and lots of historic sights. While Lausanne is called “the Olympic capital of the world”, Geneva, a major centre for international diplomacy, is said to be “the world’s capital of peace”. Located on the shore of Lake Geneva, this scenic town entices you to stroll and relax at the lakeside promenades, to enjoy a cruise on the lake and to explore the narrow side streets of the Old Town.

Located on a bay of Lake Geneva, Montreux is blessed with a very mild climate which gives it a Mediterranean feel. Therefore, Montreux, mostly known for its renowned Jazz Festival, is titled the capital of the Vaud Rivera. Jazz bars, Switzerland’s oldest casino and a flower-bordered lake promenade will be only a few of the highlights of your stay.

The cities of the Lake Geneva Region offer many cultural attractions, the surrounding mountainous landscapes are great for skiing and hiking, the breathtaking lake scenery is the perfect backdrop for extensive walks and the nearby villages and vineyards entice to excursions of wine tasting and exploring the regional cuisine. There are dozens of watch makers and jewellers in addition to the high end shopping found in each of the main cities. The Lake Geneva Region is simply perfect for a relaxed multifaceted vacation.
