Lucerne, located in central Switzerland, is the ideal starting point for many excursions into the surrounding mountain landscape. Despite its rather small size, Lucerne is said to be one of Europe’s most attractive cities and a magnet for great numbers of visitors each year. It’s therefore no surprise that you’ll find a large number of hotels (luxury hotels, hotels with great views over the lake, mid-range hotels, family hotels, spa hotels etc), offering all kinds of amenities.

Lucerne’s hotels range from expensive to moderately priced. There is an actual shortage of mid-budget hotels. Therefore, make sure to make your reservations ahead of time; especially in the summer months when most tourists visit the city.

If you look for luxury accommodation, then the “Schweizerhof” (5*), the “Art Deco Hotel Montana” (4*) or the “Grand Hotel National” (5*) may be just perfect for your stay in Lucerne. Located near Lake Lucerne, they all offer a great view of the lake as well as stylish elegance combined with the best hospitality services.

Originally built in 1911 as a private villa, the “Art Deco Hotel Montana” offers a very exclusive ambience, with cozy bedrooms, most of which will spoil you with a great view of city and lake. What’s really special about this place is the private funicular that carries the hotel’s guests uphill from a departing point nearby the lake. The “Grand Hotel National” is somewhat like a landmark to Lucerne. Built in the late 19th century and looking like a wing of the Versailles castle, this opulent hotel offers old-fashioned European charm and utmost luxury. The “Schweizerhof” also looks back on a long and prestigious history and is indeed a “legend” among Lucerne’s hotels. This belle-epoque styled house has welcomed such famous guests as Napoleon III, Leo Tolstoy, Richard Wagner, and Mark Twain.

Those travellers who look for more moderate prices the “Monopol Hotel” and “Hotel Waldstaetterhof”, both located within close proximity to the train station and to the famous Chapel Bridge, are good recommendations.
