Lausanne – a desirable place to be

Lausanne, a popular tourist destination, is located in the Lake Geneva Region and is the capital of the Swiss canton of Vaud. Just like Geneva, Lausanne is a French speaking city. And because it is home to the International Olympic Committee since 1914, Lausanne is also called the “Olympic Capital” of the world. Furthermore, this fast-developing city is home to a number of international companies.

Visitors are usually impressed by the mix of a soothing holiday feeling, dynamic commercial energy, a vibrant university life and plenty of historic sights that this mid-size town offers all in one. Imagine – Lausanne is built on three hills with the lake at its feet. Furthermore, the city is surrounded by vineyards and picturesque landscapes and is also a great gateway to the alpine Canton of the Valais, which is said to have some of the best ski slopes in the world.

Walking is a great way to get around Lausanne, not least because the picturesque old town, consisting of small alleyways and steep streets, is largely car-free. The historic city centre is perfect to stroll around and getting to know the unique city atmosphere. Here you find the cathedral, nice little cafés, exclusive boutiques, shopping streets and the pretty waterfront district of Ouchy. Due to its two universities, Lausanne’s student population contributes much liveliness and “colour” to the city’s nightlife and art scene. Beautiful parks, grand palace hotels and excellent restaurants on the other hand will enrich your holiday programme with the necessary feeling of indulgence.

Lovers of culture will also like Lausanne. The “Collection de l’Art Brut”, the “Palais de Rumine” (home to five different museums from art collection to natural history), the “Fondation de l’Hermitage” or a visit to a performance of the world-famous Béjart Ballet are only a few must-see cultural highlights in Lausanne. At last and due to its Olympic heritage, sport in general is given much attention here. Whether you visit the “Olympic Museum”, take part in the “Lausanne Marathon” or go skiing in the surrounding alpine resorts, you can make your Lausanne visit evolve all around sport.

As you see, Lausanne offers the overall package to make you feel at ease.
