Walk a block in any direction in Waikiki and you’re bound to run across an ABC Store. Or three. The first ABC Store opened on Waikiki Beach in 1964; today the chain has locations on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii Island, offering just about anything a visitor might need. Popular with visitors for their merchandise as well as their sheer, comical abundance – especially in Waikiki – the stores have been the backdrop for many funny family photos.

Food and drinks: Pick up a meal to go if you’re heading out on the road or off to the beach. You’ll find prepackaged sandwiches and bento boxes as well as snacks, candy, and bottled drinks. ABC Stores also feature an impressive collection of wine, beer, and liquor for those who imbibe.

Souvenirs: Plastic key chains, wooden utensils, toy ukuleles, and jewelry are just a few of the items you might like to take home with you, but be aware that many of these items might not be made in Hawaii. For true Hawaii souvenirs, consider a CD featuring some of the state’s talented musicians or a bag of 100% Kona coffee.

Pharmaceuticals: Nobody likes to be sick on vacation, but sometimes it happens. You’ll find a small selection of over the counter medications for cold and flu, headache remedies, and first aid.

Beach gear: Pick up sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats to keep the sun off, or grab a beach towel or beach mat. Get too much sun? You’ll want a bottle of soothing aloe vera gel.

Clothing: Island-themed t-shirts for men, women, and children are plentiful here; if you’re on a budget, check out the bargain table where you can often get 5 shirts for $20. Beach sandals and rubber slippers are also available.
