Qualicum Beach & Parksville

start stop bwd fwd

According to an old Salish Indian legend, the name Qualicum means "Where the Dog Salmon Run".  Now it could mean "where people run to vacation". The water in the shallows offshore warms up to be the warmest ocean swimming north of California, and the long hard packed beaches are surf free and safe for small children, making this area a haven for family vacations.

The 19 km of beaches stretch almost unbroken from Parksville to Qualicum Beach, connecting two laid-back friendly communities. With its charming gardens, and with recreational options ranging from biking to kayaking and caving to wine tasting, this area is a hidden gem on the east coast of Vancouver Island.

There is a range of accommodations and restaurants, from chilled out camping and picnics to five star luxury resorts  and gourmet restaurants, many serving wonderful local organically grown foods.

Easily accessed from Vancouver by the ferry from Horseshoe Bay, the perfect sand is waiting for a sandcastle to be built – by you!
